May I ask what you're majoring in? And do you think it would be easy to find a job on base or wherever your husband goes? These are things I'm considering for when I marry my SO, my main concern is my career!
I was originally a nursing major. The semester I applied to nursing school was the same time I ended up getting engaged. I cancelled my application, moved to Arkansas, and took a year off from school. I went to orientation at my new university, and realized I was doing nursing for the wrong reasons and my heart was no longer in it. The only reason I had chosen it was because it was convenient and made good money. I changed my major to history and plan to get my teaching license or master’s degree in adult education- whichever works out when the time has come.
I don’t know that teaching is a portable career, but I’m going to try to make it work. Don’t choose a career for convenience; choose what will make you happy. Medical careers will always be a good. Nurses, dental assistants and hygienists, etc can get contracted on base to work at the clinics, and those careers will be needed off base no matter where you go!
When you get married, look into MyCAA. They pay for a lot of associate’s degrees and certifications for military spouses! I can’t use it because it doesn’t cover bachelor’s or master’s :( If you get your bachelor’s make sure you pick something you want! I’m hoping my plans work out and I’m not stuck with a $30k piece of useless paper.
